From NICU Safety to At-Home Blood Tests: Dr. Paul Gilbert’s Next Big Leap with Statum DX
Wednesday May 21, 2025
Wednesday May 21, 2025
On this episode of What Keeps You Awake.TV, host David Hooser sits down with physician-inventor Dr. Paul Gilbert to trace his journey from life-saving NICU innovation to a new frontier in at-home diagnostics. Dr. Gilbert recounts the creation of the RightSpot™ pH Indicator (now used roughly every minute in the U.S.) that helps ensure feeding tubes reach the **stomach—not the lungs—**especially in premature infants. After a 2019 exit, he’s back with a new venture: Statum DX (“stat” = right now), building immediate, bedside-style blood tests designed to work with touch-activated phlebotomy devices (think a suction cup with micro-needles that draws 1–2 mL of blood at home). Instead of mailing samples and waiting weeks, Statum DX pairs micro-collection with lateral flow/ELISA readouts for fast answers—ideal for telemedicine, urgent decisioning, and potential law-enforcement or occupational use cases. He also shares early partnership momentum (MoU) with Tasso, Inc., the roadmap for initial test panels (e.g., pregnancy, THC, and others), and a look at the funding plan for bringing multiple Class II devices through clinicals and FDA pathways. What you’ll learn: How a NICU problem inspired a device used nationwide Why bedside, instant answers change outcomes (and clinician workflows) The promise of touch-activated phlebotomy + rapid assays for telemedicine Statum DX’s early strategy, tests in the first wave, and capital needs Lessons in patents, timing, and selling vs. scaling through a pandemic If you care about healthtech, medical devices, telemedicine, or building regulated products—from patent to patient—this one’s for you. 👉 Subscribe for more conversations with founders, builders, and inventors on What Keeps You Awake.TV. #WhatKeepsYouAwakeTV #DrPaulGilbert #StatumDX #HealthTech #MedicalDevices #AtHomeTesting #Telemedicine #PointOfCare #TouchActivatedPhlebotomy #LateralFlow #Diagnostics #NICU #NeonatalCare #StartupFunding #Patents

In this episode of What Keeps You Awake.TV, host David Hooser sits down with serial entrepreneur and former CIO–turned–CEO Eric Stenson to unpack a hard truth: most small and mid-size businesses are under-protected and over-charged by IT. Eric shares how his team built Mbps (the “Protected by Mbps” you see on our promos) out of necessity—turning an internal shared-services IT group into a high-accountability managed service for SMBs in Phoenix and Las Vegas. You’ll hear: Why many IT departments say “no” by default—and how a “start with yes” culture changes outcomes The simple, high-impact safeguards every SMB should implement (redundant internet via Starlink failover, real backup/restore drills, locked-down firewalls, MFA everywhere) A real ransomware story: how tested backups turned an “end-of-days” moment into a two-hour inconvenience How to judge IT value: would you write a check for this service every month? The risk math most owners miss: reputational damage often costs more than downtime If you’ve ever waited hours for a ticket reply, been told something “can’t be done,” or worried that one breach could sink your company—this conversation is for you. 👀 Serving now: Phoenix & Las Vegas (expanding soon) 🔒 Learn more about “Protected by Mbps” and how to harden your stack without blowing your budget. 👍 If this helped, please like, subscribe, and share with a fellow owner who loses sleep over IT. #WhatKeepsYouAwakeTV #SmallBusiness #ManagedIT #MSP #Cybersecurity #Ransomware #DataBackups #BusinessContinuity #ITSupport #CIO #CEO #PhoenixBusiness #LasVegasBusiness #Starlink #Entrepreneurship
